Etihad rail vs driving is now a real choice for anyone travelling between the two emirates. Since 30 September 2026, Dubai to Abu Dhabi by train runs from Al Yalayis Station to Mohamed Bin Zayed City Station. The ride takes 64 minutes and fares start at AED 39. Driving costs more at the pump than it did last month, and traffic still decides your day. Here is how both options really compare.
Etihad Rail vs Driving: The Quick Verdict
The train will always be the best mode of transportation for solo travellers who plan to travel to Mussafah, MBZ City, and Khalifa City since it guarantees a seat, WiFi, and fixed travel time. But for family and group trips and late nights, cars will always come out as the best choice when it comes to cost and convenience. This is how Etihad Rail versus driving turns out honestly.

Which One Should You Choose?
My pick in Etihad rail vs driving: take the train for solo weekday trips, and drive for weekends. The reason is predictability. A 64 minute train ride is the same at 8am as at noon, while the road is not. Choose the train if you live near Jumeirah Golf Estates and finish in Mussafah, MBZ City or Khalifa City. Skip it for Yas, Saadiyat or late dinners.
